2004 WORLD DAY for CONSECRATED LIFE

“They Left Everything and Followed Jesus” is the theme of this year’s celebration on Sunday, February 8, 2004.  Initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1997, World Day for Consecrated Life is a unique opportunity for the Catholic Church to educate parishioners about people who serve God in countless and sometimes unexpected ways while maintaining their commitment to consecrated life.  This annual event is sponsored by the U.S. Bishops’ Committee on Consecrated Life, the Conference of Major Superiors of Men, the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, and the U.S. Conference of Secular Institutes.  Check out www.consecratedlife.org online, too.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society reports that the Jan. 4th monthly collection from St. Joseph Parish for the poor and needy of our city brought in $1,460.50.  Thank you for your incredible generosity!

Text Box: What Catholics Believe about Sunday Mass and the Liturgy

Saturday, January 24: 9am – 4pm, Blessed Sacrament Church, Grandview. Cost: $10

Why do people get so snippety about kneeling or not kneeling after Communion, receiving Communion on the tongue of hand, and whether girls can serve at the altar along with boys? It’s because the Mass, the Eucharistic worship and sacrifice, is at the core of who we are and what we do as Catholics. Liturgy encompasses all the formal ways Catholics come together to pray including the Sunday Eucharist. Explore the richness of how and why Catholics worship the way we do to help others get turned on to Sunday Mass and the liturgy. Presenters:
Father Michael Brzezowski and Deacon Bob Schrom.

Bible Study:  Book of Exodus

Bible study with Fr. Royce begins again Thursday, Jan. 15, at 2pm in Schoenberg Hall and repeated at 7pm in Desmarais Hall.  We will follow up Genesis with a study of the Book of Exodus which gives us the defining moments in Jewish religious development.  All are welcome.  Try it, you’ll like it!

ATTENTION CATHOLIC MEN!!  Fr. Chuck Schmitz, S.J. and Robert Fontana will be gathering men for an evening retreat for men called UPON THIS ROCK.  Don’t miss this night of awesome music, Mass, fellowship, and dynamic presentations on God’s call for every Catholic man to be a “rock” upon which God will build His Church.  If God can use Peter the fisherman as a cornerstone for His Church 2,000 years ago, he can use you and me today!  Date:  Thursday, Feb. 5th.  Place:  Holy Redeemer Church Hall.  Time:  6:30pm (begin with Mass) - 9:30pm  Cost:  A dessert or treat to share  To register:  Call Cathy Fritsch at (509) 965-7110.
