2004 WORLD DAY for CONSECRATED LIFE

“They Left Everything and Followed Jesus” is the theme of this year’s celebration on Sunday, February 8, 2004.  Initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1997, World Day for Consecrated Life is a unique opportunity for the Catholic Church to educate parishioners about people who serve God in countless and sometimes unexpected ways while maintaining their commitment to consecrated life.  This annual event is sponsored by the U.S. Bishops’ Committee on Consecrated Life, the Conference of Major Superiors of Men, the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, and the U.S. Conference of Secular Institutes.  Check out www.consecratedlife.org online, too.

In this season of joy there are many who are not celebrating.  The holidays can be stressful or sad, especially for our elders.  Grief, loss, aging, poor health, a move are particularly hard to bear during the long, dark winter months.  If you know of a neighbor or friend who may be depressed or anxious, Catholic Family and Child Service offers new hope through their Elder Counseling Services.  Please pick up a brochure from the tables in the back of the church or call 965-7100 for more information.

Text Box: Can You Help REACH?

Due to recent changes in the insurance industry, REACH Youth Ministry is no longer able to use its 15 passenger vans for its traveling ministry. If REACH’s ministry to young people across the country is to continue, they desperately need two reliable 8-passenger vans donated. [REACH is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. All donations are tax deductible.] REACH currently has a 1999 Dodge Ram 15 passenger van (approx. 107,000 miles) and a 1997 GMC Savana 15-passenger van (approx. 160,000 miles) available for trade-in. If you are able to help in any way, or if you have a contact in the automobile industry who may be willing to help, please call Tracie Dwyer at (509) 678-8754 or e-mail REACH at reachym@prodigy.net
