Pioneer family: In a modern version of western pioneering, Mrs. Carl
Skinner
and her daughter, Mary kathleen, 2 1/2 years old, rake the sand in
front of their
small house trailer. There isn't room inside for the ice box and washing
machine.

Longtime local resident, Barbara Skinner, celebrated her 80th birthday
at
Bethany Presbyterian Church. Barbara and her husband Carl homesteaded
north
of Grandview on the Roza in1948 and developed the land into 120 acres
of orchard.
