MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH
of PROSSER, WASHINGTON
It is the will of our Lord Jesus Christ that His disciples should preach the Gospel to the whole world (Mark 16:15, Matthew 18-20, Acts 1:8) and that Christ's mission for His church might be carried out according to His will. He has commanded that Christians unite in worship (Hebrews 10:24-25), practice fellowship with one another (Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:18-20), and serve the needs of all men in Christian love (Ephesians 4:7-16, Mark 10:42-44, John 13:35, Galatians 6:10). Since Christians are also to administer the Office of the Keys as His church (John 20:21-23, Matthew 18:15-20) and to maintain decency and order (I Cor. 14:40) in the church.
The purpose of this congregation shall be: the preaching and teaching of the Word of God in all its truth and purity, the administration of the Sacraments according to the words of institution, the religious instruction of youth and adults, and the administration of charity according to the confessional standard of the Lutheran Church. It is further the purpose of this congregation to address and support the worldwide ministry of the church with specific attention to local community outreach in bringing the good news of salvation in Christ to the unchurched and to advance the work of God's Kingdom.
This congregation acknowledges and accepts all the canonical books of the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Bible as the revealed and inerrant Word of God, verbally inspired, and acknowledges and accepts all the confessional writings of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, contained in the Book of Concord of the year 1580, to be a true and genuine exposition of Christian doctrine taken from and in full agreement with the Holy Scriptures. These confessional writings are: the Three Ecumenical Creeds (Apostolic, Nicene and Athanasian), the Unaltered Augsberg Confession, the Apology of the same, the Smalcald Articles, Luther's Large and Small Catechisms and the Formula of Concord. No doctrine or practice in conflict or inconsistent with the above norms of our faith and life shall be taught or tolerated in this congregation.
The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod accepts the Scriptures as the inspired and inerrant Word of God, and subscribes unconditionally to all the symbolical books of the Evangelical Lutheran Church as a true and unadulterated statement and exposition of the Word of God. We accept the Confessions because they are drawn from the Word of God and on that account regard their doctrinal content as a true and binding exposition of Holy Scripture and as authoritative for all pastors, congregations and other rostered church workers of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.
