SHARE THE GOSPEL VIA THE INTERNET

The internet can be impersonal and overwhelming.  It is growing every second as it becomes a staple in households around the world and is changing the way people interact.  As impersonal as it may seem, the internet can be a valuable tool for sharing the Gospel with anyone, anywhere, at any time.  Many Lutheran churches are already using the Web to provide information about their church, school, special worship services, and community events.

If you have just heard from a friend who is experiencing a challenge in their lives, is afraid, depressed, or searching for hope.  Several of the popular PROJECT CONNECT booklets are available for download with just a few keystrokes, or order any of them from the online store at www.lhmgift.org/storefront.

When you are looking at options at the Lutheran Hour Ministries Web site, don't overlook the function "e-mail to a friend" and share a Gospel-based message with anyone at any time.  This is also a wonderful way to share a special Lutheran Hour sermon with a loved one.  The Lutheran Hour Web site www.lutheranhour.org  provides the ability to send the text of any Lutheran Hour sermon broadcast since January 2001.

Messiah Lutheran Preschool Board News

Messiah Lutheran Preschool finished up another great year.  The 3-Day Students were honored at a graduation ceremony on May 30.  They sang some favorite songs.  We wish them well in Kindergarten.  The 2-Day Students and their families got together on May 31 for a family picnic.

Registration for the 2007-2008 school year is in full swing.  So far, there are 33 students enrolled.  We still have openings in the 3-Day Afternoon class and in both of the 2-Day Classes.

The Preschool Teachers are looking forward to a nice relaxing summer with and some time with their families.  They are already making plans for the new school year.

MESSIAH LUTHERAN PRESCHOOL

SCRIP FUNDRAISER PROGRAM

Scrip gift cards are still through Messiah Lutheran Preschool.  This is an ongoing fundraising program where the preschool purchases gift cards at a discount and in turn sells them to supporters at face value.  Scrip gift cards make great presents on that special occasion. There are many merchants to choose from including the ever popular GAP and OLD NAVY.

The Safeway Gift Card Program changed July 20,2005.  Gift cards will no longer be available to purchase but you can support Messiah Lutheran Preschool by going to escrip.com and signing up as a supporter.  After you register your Safeway Store Card, every purchase you make at Safeway will be credited to Messiah Preschool.  If you don’t have internet access, you can also register your Safeway Card with Linda Visness.  If we get enough people signed up, 4% of all purchases at Safeway will benefit Messiah Lutheran Preschool.  It doesn’t take long for accumulated purchases to add up.  This is a very simple way to help out Messiah Lutheran Preschool.  Thanks for your Support!

TRUSTEE'S REPORT

Thank you to all members for working together to raise the money for the new roof.  Not having to tar the roof every year is going to be wonderful.  Special thank you to Cormac for working with the contractors to get job done in a very timely matter.  On the subject of timely matters the city water project is still in the plans.  The hold up now is the pine tree in the front yard of the parsonage.  As soon as we get it removed the contractors will be able to install the 2 new water lines.

We need three volunteers to help with the preschool irrigation system this summer.  Due to the large amount of trash in the SVID irrigation water our filter system is unable to keep up.  We are looking for volunteers to take one night a week and clean the filter.  The job only takes about 5 minutes to complete, but is absolutely necessary to provide enough water for the system operate.  Anyone interested please contact Scott Evenson (832-1342)

Have you noticed that there is a large number of items on the Church's Maintenance and Repair List.  The projects can usually be done by a single person or a small group in a short period of time.   They are not showy nor are they noticed a lot but they all add up to keeping God's House in good order and repair.

Why don't you take a look at the list, get a few friends together, and surprise the congregation with your contribution to keeping our Church in good maintenance and repair.  Please contact Scott Evenson when you have completed a project or if you would like to be assigned a maintenance or repair task.  THANKS.

Education Committee News

Don't forget to make use of the many Christian books and videos in our library for children and adults.  "The Veggie Tales" videos and books by Janette Oke are just a few of the items available.  Please see Linda if you have questions about checking them out.

Keep growing in Christ,

Education Chairman, Diane Etzel

Mail Boxes/Birthdays

Please check to see if you have a mail box and/or let Linda know if you need a mail box.  Also, please let Linda know if corrections need to be made to the birthday list on the monthly calendar so she can made corrections and also any updates to your mailing address.  Thank You!

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ at Messiah Lutheran Church,

Please prayerfully consider making a personal commitment to help keep our church home clean.  Sign-up sheets for 2007 are posted on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall.  Cleaning areas have been divided between the Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall, Kitchen, Bathrooms, and Basement.  The Confirmation students will routinely clean the upstairs as part of their service projects.  Please Sign up to clean an area for two weeks or a month.  I will remind you of the times you sign up for, and you will be provided with a suggested list of chores that need to be done.  It should never take more than two hours to clean an area each week.  Cleaning supplies will be provided.

If for some reason you are unable to perform a cleaning service, you might want to consider signing up and then hiring someone to do the cleaning for you.  You can hire someone you already know, or check with me as I am currently working on developing a list of persons wishing to be hired.  The rate would be $20 per area per week.

Let us remember, that we will feel great joy if we give our time and talents with enthusiasm and love while in service and thankfulness to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

God’s Blessings,

Betty Parker - 786-0202

Do you have a MP3 player, iPod, or similar device?

KFUO, the radio station owned and operated by The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, began podcasting earlier this year - ahead of most radio stations of any type.  KFUO stands for - KEEPING FORWARD, UPWARD, ONWARD and was founded in 1924 and its current home is on the Concordia Seminary campus in St. Louis.

The station started Internet streaming in the late 1990's which allows listeners to hear programs over the internet all over the world as they are being broadcast.  Podcasting enables listeners to get the programs they want anytime they want.  The AM station focuses on talk, interviews, and worship music programming and is the voice of the Reformation on the radio airwaves.

You can learn more about KFUO, its programming, Internet streaming and podcasting at www.kfuo.org.

LIFE GROUPS

There are seven LIFE Groups open to each member and friend of Messiah as well as 3 study groups for our youth.  Have you found one you want to join?  See the list below and come to one of their meetings.  Guests and visitors are always welcome.

Please let one of the leaders know if you are interested in a particular study.  We would be happy to add new studies to our groups.

Are you interested in a second Bible study on Sunday Mornings, more along the lines of adult studies of the lessons being taught to the Sunday School students?  As parents, you can help your children further understand their bible studies, ask more meaningful questions about their studies.  There are other topics that might interest parents such as a Christian parenting Bible Study.  Let one of the leaders know what interests you.

May God continue to richly bless you as you grow in your understanding of his Word and fellowship with other believers.

LIFE

("L"iving "I"n "F"aith "E"verywhere)

At Church, At Home, At Work, At Play

Why LIFE Groups?

One frequently noted objection to being part of a growing church is the fear that increased growth will result in a loss of intimacy and family.  At the same time, people new to the church may find it difficult to find a place of belonging.  LIFE Groups are designed to provide the intimacy and feeling of family important to "all" members in the Body of Christ.

What is the Purpose of LIFE Groups?

LIFE Groups at Messiah will be . . . . .

What is a LIFE Group?

A LIFE Group is more than simply a small group and more than a Bible study group.  LIFE Groups are places to build relationships and to receive spiritual care and support.  Because of this emphasis, the pastor will be providing ongoing guidance, support, training, and resources for LIFE Group Facilitators.  LIFE Groups will have a multi-dimensional agenda.

How Often do LIFE Groups Meet?

Each LIFE Group will determine their own schedule.  LIFE Groups will meet on a weekly basis.  However, how often the groups meet depends on the needs and personal schedules of people.

How Long do LIFE Groups Last?

A real care group never ends, it just keeps reproducing itself.  It is normal for a LIFE Group to grow and give birth to a new group.  This can happen every 6-12 months . . . whenever a new Facilitator is trained.

Like people, however, there are distinct cycles of LIFE Groups, and Groups will covenant for 6-8 weeks at a time to clarify their purpose as a group and the ground rules for their life together.

Who can be in a LIFE Group?

All members of Messiah are strongly encouraged to participate in a LIFE Group.  But more than that, LIFE Groups seek to build on the mutual relationships and common needs which exist among people.  You are always encouraged to invite your friends to participate in your LIFE Group.   Intentional outreach is always a priority goal of LIFE Groups.

Do I have to be a Bible Expert?

Absolutely not!  LIFE Groups are designed for everyone to grow and discover the joys of knowing and walking with Jesus.  Bible knowledge is not at all a requirement for joining a LIFE Group.  This is a class to learn about the Bible.  Come, listen, learn, and participate.

What can I Expect?

Try It!  You'll Like It!

Try a LIFE Group.  Once you have experienced it, you will never want to live without one.  Try a LIFE Group for a few weeks and find out for yourself what is really like!

How Can I Participate?

Join a Life Group Study Group.
